چکیده

Abstract Introduction Diabetic foot ulceration is a devasting complication of diabetes contributing to significant morbidity. Delayed wound healing leads limb loss and associated stress, anxiety depression. Apart from systemic inflammatory markers qualitative assessment the ulcers, there no molecular biomarker that can help prognosticate fate diabetic ulcer. Metabonomics powerful toolset employed describe metabolic signatures in various biological systems. The aim this systematic review summarise existing evidence on subject. Methods A was performed following predefined protocol. Searches Embase MEDLINE by two independent authors, retrieved 292 articles, which were included study. synthesis due heterogeneity between studies. Result Two articles pertaining metabonomics ulcers included. One study found phospholipids (phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine lysophosphatidylethanolamine) with development ulcers. In second study, amino acids such as arginine, isoleucine, leucine threonine be greater concentration healed ulcer group compared non-healed group. Conclusion studies have highlighted disruption phospholipid pathway. They also suggest specific are indeed deficient non-healing There limited published literature application phenotyping platforms DFU. methodology heterogeneous hence not directly comparable. Further needed utilize approach, standardized design additionally translational application. Take-home message fully understood. More designs using should developed they provide most patient phenotype.

Issues with Diabetic Foot Ulceration

The majority of foot ulcers appear to result from minor trauma in the presence of sensory neuropathy. This best describes the critical triad most commonly seen in patients with diabetic foot ulcers: peripheral sensory neuropathy, deformity, and trauma. All three of these risk factors are present in 65% of diabetic foot ulcers. Calluses, edema, and peripheral vascular disease have also been iden...

Muscle perfusion scan for prediction of anticipated diabetic foot ulceration

Introduction:We evaluated the performance of muscle perfusion scan (MPS) to assess muscle perfusion reserve (MPR) for prediction of incident diabetic foot ulcerations (DFU). Methods: We recruited 41 diabetic patients without any history of DFU. Five mCi 99mTc-MIBI was injected intravenously during repetitive dorsal and plantar right foot flexions. T...

Wound Measurement in Diabetic Foot Ulceration

In this chapter the authors aim to provide a brief introduction to wound assessment in the diabetic foot and discuss the role of wound measurement within that assessment process. A literature review describing wound measurement in diabetic foot wounds was conducted and a review of wound measurement tools and techniques reported. The results of a wound measurement study using a particular techni...

Trials in Neuropathic Diabetic Foot Ulceration

D iabetic foot ulceration is a serious and expensive complication with considerable morbidity that affects up to 15% of diabetic patients during their lifetime; moreover, 80% of amputations are preceded by foot ulcers (1). Despite these facts, Mason et al. (2) concluded in their systematic review of treatments for foot lesions that the evidence base for treatments is poor. Furthermore, they cri...
